Rehab
Saturday, August 16, 2008, 03:13 PM
I'm trying to find time to rehab some older kits. we still sell quite a few quonset huts. It;s one of our first kits and i think it's about ready for a freshining up. we have new steel corrigated textures that we have been using on various steel mill projects and it seems silly to offer a similar material in the old style. we are already updating the texture sheets for the corrigated so now i need to go back in and update the Q hut.
votes are in (but keep voting) textures will not be on peel and stick starting in september. As soon as we fill remaining orders to our distributors we will do the switch.
Ink costs are through the roof. paper is up a bit but the peel and stick is just too costly and difficult to print. we hope that this change will help us keep prices where they are for the next 6 months at least.

A couple of tips
Saturday, August 16, 2008, 02:54 PM
I found a new glue the other day and gave it a try wile building some new prototype models. As you know we have indorsed CA in the past and I'm not canceling that out but my brother is elergic to the stuff and i suspect he's not the only one. this glue is available in craft stores and is called "Zip dry" paper glue. made in the us by Beacon adhesives, a two ounce bottel lasts forever. It has a consistancy not unlike the airplane glue of old. Kind of a gell. what i like about it is it's quick firm tack and paper friendliness. Good stuff it gets my thumbs up.

Secondarily. this is a recap. just a reminder how important it is to dull coat your models. In the rush of building prototypes i some times forget to spray them with a matt finish. Dumn dumd dumb.
Not only does it protect the paper but the UV filtering aspect really pops the details...alot. I think a 10 or 20% increase in apparent sharpness and added contrast really is the finishing touch.
i cant wait to start sharing some of the new prototypes with you all.
The foicus this year seems to be industrial with lots of heavy industry related kits. At least 3 new steel mill type buildings a couple of engine and car sheds, narrow guage rolling stock in HOn30 and On30. finally nicely detailed flats "The american pipe co." and " the wolworth warehouse". I want to finish one more before those get released and Im building the prototypes right now. Awsome is all i can say. they will be in HO and N. and ofcourse laser cut windows and doors in HO (later in O and N) All the art work is done. we just need to find the time to get stuff tested and ready to ship.

more soon.

The upcoming Indie show
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 03:27 PM
Hay all. Clever models has been displaying and running our modules at Inde from the buginning, 4 years ago.
Alas the cost of gas and hauling the layout takes a toll and we are not going to be displaying this year. Lets hope that some sanity returnes to the fuel industry and we can look at this as a temporary situation.
WE will be at the show on Saturday and you will be able to spot us in our clever bros dark blues. Pssst, we might even have a trunk full of kits.
really, we enjoy being a part of and supporting the hobby but if somthing doesent happen to make the cost of shows more attractive i can only see this kind of thing happening more ofen.
We are building a much smaller and more portable demo layout and will likely find a way to be involves doing demos and such but for now we will be spectators and just concentrate on enjoying the hobby.
We do have a lot of new kits getting ready. I'm excited about rolling them out in the next couple of months.

It's gone !
Sunday, July 27, 2008, 03:02 AM
The building that started it all. well, almost. actually there were two freelace models that i made just to see if paper models were even possible.

The jefferson ice Co, The real building was torn down. this was our first real seller and the kit that set the bar for what a kit had to be to make the cut. I don't know why but it's wierd to know its gone. Guess I'm glad that we were able to preserve it. thats kind of cool,
